World Rowing is proud to continue and strengthen its collaboration with the Italian Rowing Federation (FIC) as part of its development programs. A new edition of the annual development training camp was held at Lake Piediluco, in Terni (Italy), ahead of the 40th edition of the international regatta “Memorial Paolo d’Aloja.”
This edition stood out for its strong commitment to environmental protection, implementing a “zero plastic bottle” policy. Stainless steel bottles were distributed to participants, and drinking water fountains were made available at the competition venue.
In collaboration with World Rowing, the Italian Federation invited six countries from Africa, the Americas, and Europe – Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Puerto Rico, and Moldova – to take part in this development camp, held from 21-24 April 2026, as well as in the Piediluco International Green Regatta, which took place from 24-26 April 2026.
World Rowing experts Gianni Postiglione and Fayçal Soula oversaw the smooth running of the camp. They observed a clear improvement in the athletes’ performance, both technically and physically. This progress resulted in several podium finishes, particularly in the women’s events: junior single sculls with Diana Plotean (Moldova), lightweight single sculls with Zimbabwe’s Done Erasmus, as well as Tunisia’s Salma Dhaouda and Sarra Zammali, and Egypt’s Huda Mansour. In the men’s events, Tunisia’s Ghaith Kadri stood out in the lightweight single sculls.
The camp and competition were held under excellent weather conditions: light wind during the heats and nearly perfect conditions during the finals on both days.
World Rowing would like to thank the boat manufacturer Filippi for its support, having provided training and racing boats as part of a partnership focused on sustainable development together with the World Rowing Development Program.
