Investing in the next generation of women coaching leaders
World Rowing is delighted to announce that Dewi Yuliawati of Indonesia has been selected to join the Women in Sport High Performance Pathway (WISH) Programme – a global leadership initiative supported by Olympic Solidarity and designed to increase the representation of women coaches at the highest levels of sport.
A former international athlete and now a rising coach within the Indonesian rowing system, Dewi currently works with the Indonesia National Rowing Team’s youth programmes, supporting the development of athletes preparing for future international competition.
A Journey of Learning and Leadership
The WISH Programme is a 21-month leadership pathway that combines a residential learning experience in the United Kingdom with mentoring, leadership development, and sport-specific support. The programme is designed to help women coaches strengthen their leadership skills, expand their professional networks, and prepare for opportunities at the highest levels of sport.
As part of the programme, Dewi will participate in the residential week at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom, where she will join coaches from across the world in a unique women-led learning environment focused on personal growth, collaboration, and high-performance coaching.
World Rowing will also explore opportunities for sport-specific mentoring and coaching exchange experiences to further support her development throughout the programme.
Creating Lasting Impact
The impact of WISH extends far beyond the classroom. Evaluation of the programme consistently demonstrates growth in the three pillars of Competence, Confidence, and Courage, helping women coaches develop as leaders while equipping them to create positive change within their sports and organisations.
To date, more than 185 women coaches from 73 countries and 29 sports have graduated from the programme, many progressing into national coaching roles, international competitions, coach education, and leadership positions.
For World Rowing, the programme has become an important part of our commitment to developing women coaches. Over the past six years, 16 rowing coaches have benefited from WISH, gaining skills, networks, and experiences that continue to influence the sport at local, national, and international levels.
Looking Ahead
As rowing continues to strengthen pathways for women in coaching and leadership, programmes such as WISH play a critical role in ensuring that talented coaches have access to the opportunities, support, and networks needed to thrive.
