A World Rowing Development Programme for Coastal Race Module (CRM) training was launched on Sunday 18 June in Hammamet, Tunisia. In attendance are coaches from eleven (11) countries, namely Algeria, Angola, Benin, Kenya, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Togo, Tunisia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Training is covering both theoretical and practical aspects, with coaches able to undergo training, while preparing their athletes to take part in the 2nd Africa Beach Games from 24-26 June 2023.
The coaches are being taken through their competence training and professional development progress by WR appointed Coach Educators Mehdi Garidi and Vincent Tassery.
The eleven (11) Federations listed above, together with athletes from Cape Verde, make up the twelve (12) nations benefitting from this Olympic Solidarity supported Technical Course for Coaches (TCC) initiative. The pre-event TCC is being administered through the Tunisian Rowing Federation (TRF) who have provided logistical and host nation support.
Also, due to take part in the ABG 2023 are the following federation athletes:
- Two (2) athletes on OS Scholarships for Athletes Paris 2024, one (1) each from Togo and Sudan, both currently based at the Training Centre in Tunis.
- Athletes from Egypt, Djibouti, and Somalia.
