The Development of National Sports System Programme (DNSS) with Jordan Rowing Federation, which started in February 2024, came to an end on 07 December 2024 with the final visit of the World Rowing Experts delivering the programme, Madalena Ferreira and Mehdi Garidi.
The programme delivered by World Rowing with the valuable support of Jordan Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity was a success helping to initiate the sport of Coastal Rowing in Jordan, specifically at the city of Aqaba, the only coastal city in Jordan and the largest and most populous city on the Gulf of Aqaba.
Through the programme, 6 coastal Filippi boats (3 Solos and 3 Doubles), 11 sets of Braca oars) and 6 Concept2 Rowing Machines were procured. Having the required equipment was an essential first step to introduce the sport to the community.
The programme then contributed to the initiation of the education and qualification pathway of the local coaches in Aqaba and the introduction of the sport of Rowing, focusing on the beach sprint format and Indoor Rowing.
Extensive training was also provided in water safety, risk assessment, beach orientation, and session management.
The DNSS was a first step to promote Rowing in Jordan and World Rowing will continue in 2025 and beyond to work with Jordan Rowing Federation and Jordan Olympic Committee to sustain the progress achieved through the DNSS; and further develop the sport in Jordan aiming to see Jordanian Rowing athletes qualify for the Youth Olympic Games 2026 and the Olympic Games LA2028.
