Limassol, Cyprus – June 16, 2025 — The Cyprus Rowing Association has successfully concluded the World Rowing Level 1 Coastal Rowing coaching course, marking a significant milestone in the country’s rowing development efforts. The programme, held in partnership with World Rowing and supported by the Cyprus Rowing Association focused on building coaching capacity in the Coastal Rowing discipline, with particular emphasis on the Beach Sprints format.


The course, which combined online self-learning modules with in-person practical sessions, that took place at the Limassol Nautical Club. A total of 15 participants, including 7 women, completed the programme.
The initiative aimed to equip existing Classic rowing coaches with the knowledge and skills required to transition into the fast-growing discipline of Coastal Rowing.
The in-person segment of the course was led by World Rowing Coach Educator Sahbi Khardani, who guided the participants through hands-on training tailored to the dynamic and spectator-friendly Beach Sprints format.
The Cyprus Rowing Association’s successful application for funding from the Cyprus Sports Organisation enabled the hosting of this course, reinforcing the country’s commitment to diversifying and strengthening its rowing community.
This initiative represents a strategic step in aligning Cyprus with global trends in rowing and preparing local coaches to support the growth of Coastal Rowing and Beach Sprint competitions in the region. Which is of great importance especially with the upcoming Olympic Games in LA2028, which will feature the Beach Sprint discipline for the first time.
