European nations receive support at 2024 WR European Olympic & Paralympic Qualification Regatta, HUN

World Rowing’s objective is to help and enable Member Federations (MFs) that are identified as needing assistance for their crews to compete in major events and championships. To that end, the organisation regularly offers development opportunities to targeted MFs. At the 2024 European Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta (EOPQR) five European Member Federations (five athletes and 4 coaches) were supported with accommodation & transport. The Development Support Programme is only possible with the generous support of the local Organising Committee (LOC), we therefore thank the 2024 EOPQR/ECH LOC for their valued assistance.

With a stronger focus on supporting European rowing nations in the development of Para Rowing, this regatta enabled the support of two nations with their para-athletes who are both new to the sport and whose MFs are just starting to develop a Para Rowing programme.

The following supported nations and their crews competed in the Qualification Regatta and achieved the following results:

  • Cyprus (M1x) – 2nd in Final C
  • Denmark (PR1W1x)
  • Latvia (W1x) – 4th in Final B
  • Lithuania (PR1M1x) – 5th in Final
  • Moldova (M1x) – 2nd in Final B
Alexandros Zisimidis, Cyprus M1x
Chirill Visotchi-Sestacov, Moldova M1x
Jurgis Liaukus, Lithuania PR1M1x

Unfortunately, none of the target nations were able to secure a place in the European Olympic or Paralympic qualifiers regatta , but their participation provided valuable international experience that will enable further development and growth. The crews will have another chance at the 2024 World Rowing Final Olympic and Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne in May.
