Classic Rowing coach education is back to Africa.
From 10- 15 December 2022, a Regional Technical Course for Coaches Classic L1 was organised in El-Alamein, Egypt preceding the 14th African Rowing Championships which is scheduled to kick off on 16 December.
The regional coaching course was combined with a small training camp. It included 8 coach trainees and 5 athletes from 6 African nations: Egypt – Sudan – Libya – Ivory Coast – Togo – Somalia.
This initiative was organised in collaboration with Olympic Solidarity and the Egyptian Olympic Committee. It was a great opportunity to offer the L1 classic award to more coaches in Africa and the Egyptian host towards a standardised coaching education across all World Rowing member federations.
The L1 classic coaching course had a combination of theoretical and practical sessions, focusing mainly on introduction to classic rowing and coaching, rigging, safety and risk assessment, technique and session planning.
All participants were tested to show swimming ability and a capsize drill session was delivered.
Additionally, a first aid and CPR training was delivered to coach trainees as the safety of all participants in rowing events is a priority and an integral part of coaching education.
The coaching course and training camp were delivered by World Rowing coaching experts Vincent Tassery and Sizwe Ndlovu.
