The Lesotho Rowing Federation (LRF), established in 2020, is currently benefiting from a Development of the National Sports System initiative, supported by the Lesotho National Olympic Committee. This project, which began in early 2023, aims to assist the LRF in establishing robust structures and systems for the federation.
Following an initial visit by WR expert Sizwe Ndlovu in 2023, the second of the three scheduled visits was a session conducted by Selwyn Jackson from16-22 July 2024. Selwyn, who is based in South Africa, has extensive knowledge and experience stemming from previous roles on the World Rowing Events, Masters, and Umpiring Commissions.
The primary goal of his visit was to develop technical officials (NTOs) through an educational program, thereby increasing the quantity and quality of trained personnel. The programme included an overview of the rules of racing and by-laws, the fundamentals of umpiring, and insights into building a rowing course. This approach will enhance the activity levels, the performance and delivery of safe and inclusive rowing in Lesotho.
World Rowing is confident in the sustainability of this initiative despite environmental challenges such as occasional extreme weather conditions. Collaborating with the Lesotho NOC and the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission, LRF will leverage its proximity to South Africa where the available expertise can provide valuable support and experiences.
