As part of the World Rowing Oceania Youth Athletes Development Training Camp organised by World Rowing and Olympic Solidarity, the first Oceania Youth Development Sprint Ergs Championships endorsed by Oceania Rowing Confederation (ORCON), took place on October 1st, 2024 at the Sydney Academy of Sports and Recreation.

The Championships included 500m male and female competitions and a 16-minute ergs relay with teams of four athletes. This event tested the athletes’ endurance and teamwork, providing a competitive yet friendly atmosphere.

The organisation of this Championship was supported by Rowing New South Wales, who provided the ergs used for the competition, while Kevin Scott, PYF Rowing Federation Director and camp participant coach organised and run the races supported by Laryssa Biesenthal OLY, World Rowing Development Technical Expert for Oceania.

The Championships was a starting point for the athletes to taste competing against other athletes from different countries in a safe and supporting environment and understand what being a high-performance athlete is. It was an opportunity to provide a regional platform for development athletes from Oceania to excel and give their best after being introduced to the sport and training for three months only.
