Para Rowing Development in Istanbul
A four-day Para Rowing Development Programme was hosted in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Dr. Simon Alan Goodey, World Rowing Para Coaching Education Discipline Lead visited Türkiye to run the event at the Haliç Water Sports Center.
Nine Para-Rowing coaches and five National Para-Rowing athletes, along with the Türkiye Rowing Federation Secretary General Uğur Kılıç and the Chairman of the Board of Education Serdar Orkun Pelvan, met to support the team’s growth and provide valuable advice.
Representatives from the Turkish Paralympic Committee also attend the event, including Dr. Onder Cerezci, who will oversee efforts to ensure national classifiers from Türkiye will complete the WR online courses.
Throughout the four-day course, the following topics were covered:
- Classification athlete evaluation process
- Eligible and non-eligible health conditions
- Characteristics of a performance Para rower
- Developing a programme
- Recruitment strategy
- Para talent identification
Dr. Simon Alan Goodey, will meet with the athletes and coaches ahead of the “Tütkiye Para Rowing Development Program” training, which is scheduled to begin in May – June.
