Seville has been home to multiple World Rowing Development Training Camps and Coaching courses over the last three decades, with the legendary Development Director Thor Nilsen amazing contribution to the continuous personal development of coaches and athletes from all five corners of the world.
Thor’s legacy is reminded by many of the World Rowing Coach Educators present in Seville for the World Rowing L2 Educators Course. 14 Experts and three educators from all continents have contributed to an interactive Level 2 course, focusing on three main pillars: Athlete wellbeing, Coaching and Physical.
The World Rowing Educators Rosie Mayglothling, Gianni Postiglione and Dr Mark Homer (Buckinghamshire New University) organised and delivered highly interactive sessions prompting case studies for working groups discussion.
The high level of the participants allowed for the enrichment of the course syllabus and pushed all participants to share skills and competences in a very safe and positive environment
Methods for teaching coaches and athletes were fundamental in a syllabus that introduces athlete well being as the very first pillar.
Thank you to the Spanish Rowing Federation, Spanish Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity for the valuable support that made the activities possible, as well as to the Centro Especializado de Alto Rendimiento de Remo y Piragüismo “La Cartuja”, Sevilla (Andalucía) for the warm welcome.
The next WR L2 course is planned for March 2025 in Paraguay, following the Pan Am Youth Games qualifier.
