Singapore Rowing Association(SRA) held a World Rowing Level 1 Classic Coaching Course, together with a Coastal Race Module, from 10th to 16th January 2025. Organised and funded on the initiative of the Association, a highly enthusiastic group of eight coaches took part in the course, based at the excellent Rowing facilities on the Pandan Reservoir. Coastal activities took place at the National Sailing Centre at East Coast Park, whilst SRA President, Paul Supramaniam, was kind enough to offer his own swimming pool for the capsize drills and swim tests!

The programme was led by Rosie Mayglothling, World Rowing’s Head of Coach Education, and Chris Perry, Development Lead Expert for Asia. The course also coincided with the arrival of the Association’s new Head Coach – South African Olympian Jake Milton Green – who also took part and helped to facilitate activities.

Despite heavy rain for much of the week, the full Classic Level 1 syllabus was delivered together with the land-based components of the Coastal Race Module. The Association do not yet have any coastal boats but are planning to get these as soon as possible, at which stage the practical elements of the CRM will be delivered.

Huge thanks to SRA for making this course possible with the Board, members and athletes all rallying round to make everything run smoothly. Special thanks also to Singapore’s Olympian Joan Poh who helped coordinate on the SRA side and to Sport Singapore for their support and interest.
