The West Africa Regional Rowing Regatta took centre stage at the BICS Boat Club in Lekki, Lagos, from21st – 24th November 2024. The event saw fierce competition as Nigeria, Togo, and Benin Republic battled it out on the water in a thrilling display of rowing prowess.


The regatta followed the recent coaching and umpiring courses held in Abuja, thereby providing an opportunity to expose the region to more beach sprints events, ahead of the inclusion of this format of rowing in the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, and Summer Olympic Games LA 2028.


The regatta kicked off with the registration and accreditation of athletes and officials before shifting into competitive mode. On the second day, team meetings were held, and the event fixtures and start lists were finalised, setting the stage for an exciting series of races.
Six boats – two doubles and four singles – were used throughout the championship, with races split into morning and afternoon sessions. The following events were on the programme:
- Men and Women’s Single Scull
- Men and Women’s Double Scull
- Mixed Doubles

Benin Republic Claims Top Honors
After intense competition, Benin Republic emerged as the overall champion, clinching first place on the medal table. Host nation Nigeria secured second place, while Togo put up a commendable effort to take third.
Final Standings:

🥈 2nd Place: Nigeria
🥉 3rd Place: Togo




The championship concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from the President of the Nigeria Rowing, Canoe, and Sailing Federation. He congratulated all participants, especially the victorious Benin Republic team, and wished everyone a safe journey home.
The regatta not only showcased top-tier rowing talent but also strengthened regional sporting ties, paving the way for future collaborations and development in West African Rowing.
